Definition

A GMT watch is a watch built to display at least two time zones, usually with an additional 24-hour hand read against a 24-hour scale. The complication may allow either the local hour hand or the GMT hand to be adjusted independently, which changes how convenient it is for travel. A rotating 24-hour bezel can often be used with the GMT hand to read a third zone. The style originated from practical long-distance travel needs but now appears across sports and dress designs.

Why it matters

For frequent travellers, the setting architecture matters more than the GMT label: an independently jumping local hour makes arrival in a new zone particularly quick.
