Definition

A fixed bezel is a bezel that does not rotate during normal use. It may simply frame and retain the crystal, or it may carry decorative fluting, gemstones, engraving or a functional scale such as a tachymeter. Because the scale cannot be repositioned, any information it provides is read relative to the watch hands or dial rather than by aligning the bezel with an event. Fixed bezels can be integral to the case architecture or separate components secured to the middle case.

Why it matters

A fixed bezel is generally simpler to operate and can provide a cleaner or more robust case front. Buyers should distinguish a fixed scale from a rotating timing bezel because the two are used differently.
