Definition

A diver’s watch is the standards-oriented term for a watch designed to withstand SCUBA diving. ISO 6425:2018 applies to diver’s watches intended for depths of at least 100 m and equipped with a secured system for indicating dive time that is visible in darkness, with additional requirements and test methods defined by the standard. This is narrower than the informal phrase 'dive watch', which is often used for watches that merely share diving aesthetics.

Why it matters

For actual diving, standards language is more meaningful than visual style. A bezel and high depth number alone do not demonstrate that all relevant requirements have been met.
