Definition

Dial colour is the stated visible colour of a watch dial, but the description can be less objective than it sounds. Surface finish, metallic brushing, lacquer, mother-of-pearl, texture and lighting can make one nominal colour shift dramatically. Manufacturers may also use proprietary marketing names rather than standard colour references. For database comparison, the broad colour family and the maker’s official description should be kept distinct where possible.

Why it matters

Colour is important for search and configuration identification, but photographs alone can misclassify reflective or colour-shifting dials.
