Definition

Currency records the monetary unit in which a watch price is quoted, such as GBP, USD, EUR, CHF or JPY. Because retail prices are set by market rather than obtained by simple live exchange-rate conversion, the same watch can have different effective pricing across countries. Historical valuation also requires the currency and date to be retained together because exchange rates and brand pricing change.

Why it matters

A price without currency is ambiguous, and converting old or regional prices at today’s exchange rate can create misleading comparisons.
