Co-Axial
Omega-associated escapement technology developed from George Daniels’ co-axial concept to reduce sliding friction in the escapement.
Also known as: Co-Axial escapement, Coaxial, George Daniels Co-Axial

Definition
Co-Axial is the name of the escapement invented by George Daniels and industrialised extensively by Omega. Its geometry separates locking and impulse functions differently from the traditional Swiss lever escapement, reducing sliding friction at critical contact surfaces and therefore reducing dependence on lubrication. Omega has used Co-Axial escapements across many mechanical calibres since the late 1990s. The term describes a specific escapement architecture, not a general synonym for high accuracy.
Why it matters
The Co-Axial changes a fundamental movement mechanism and has implications for lubrication, service design and Omega’s modern calibre architecture; it should not be confused with Master Chronometer certification.
