Clasp
The fastening mechanism used to secure a watch bracelet or some straps around the wrist.
Also known as: Watch clasp, Bracelet clasp

Definition
A clasp is the fastening mechanism that closes a watch bracelet or certain straps around the wrist. Designs range from simple folding mechanisms to multi-blade deployant systems with push-buttons, safety locks, extension systems and tool-free micro-adjustment. Unlike a pin or tang buckle, many clasps allow the bracelet or strap to open widely without separating into two free ends. The clasp also frequently carries the fine-adjustment system used to tune bracelet fit.
Why it matters
The clasp is both a security component and a major comfort point because it sits against the underside of the wrist. Thickness, edge finishing, locking security and adjustment range can materially affect everyday wear even when the bracelet itself is excellent.
