Definition

Clasp type identifies the fastening mechanism used on a watch strap or bracelet. Common categories include pin/tang buckle, folding clasp, deployant clasp and folding clasps with push-buttons or safety locks. The field describes mechanism rather than material or branding, and terminology can overlap—particularly 'folding' and 'deployant'—so database definitions should normalise equivalent manufacturer language carefully.

Why it matters

Clasp type affects security, comfort, adjustability and strap compatibility, making it more than a cosmetic specification.
