Calibre
The specific design or model of a watch movement, usually identified by a manufacturer’s calibre number or name.
Also known as: caliber, movement calibre, movement caliber

Definition
Calibre is the watchmaking term for a particular movement design or movement family. Historically the word referred to the dimensions and layout of movement parts; today manufacturers use calibre numbers or names to identify a specific architecture and its variants. Two watches can therefore use the same basic calibre while differing in decoration, regulation, winding system or added modules. Knowing the calibre helps identify the movement's origin, construction, specifications, service requirements and relationship to other watches.
Why it matters
Calibre identification lets buyers and owners look beyond the dial to understand what actually powers the watch, including its architecture, specifications, provenance, serviceability and use across related models.
